THE SWORD/BLACK COBRA/BISOC B.C./TRPS ROCK POSTERS/FRISCO FREAKOUT FEST/BOXCAR SATAN/PLAYLIST/TOP 10/PIRATE CAT RADIO

I like ROCKtober! Since I was a teenager, ROCKtober has been a part of my life. I remember the local rock station would throw a free concert in downtown San Antonio. Also, some good concerts would come through town. As I got older, the local bars and rock clubs would always have more bands than usually and great drink specials (YEAH!). Now, it still hasn’t changed and that’s why I love this country. The next seven days are going to be so much fun here in San Francisco that I invite you to fly in and hang out. Ok, try to keep up with me.

Starting this Friday the 10th, THE SWORD, BLACK COBRA and BISON b.c. will be performing at Slim’s. I think this is the first time I’ll be seeing BLACK COBRA on the big stage. It’s only two guys that sound like they’ll be five guys on stage. I’m hoping the light show for them will be like a RUSH concert. HA! THE SWORD has been getting bigger and bigger in the last couple of years. These guys are now opening for METALLICA and there fans base is only getting bigger. It won’t surprise me that The Sword will start touring with other bigger bands in the near future. All the best to them. Also on the bill is BISON b.c. and these guys are going to blow you away. They’re loud and will crush your skull early on the show. So, if you like Mastodon or Lair of the Minotaur, go out to dinner early and don’t miss this band.

Two huge events going on Saturday, October 11th and let me start with the early show. We are proud to have once again TRPS Rock Poster Show 2008 in Golden Gate Park. This year’s event has a few new “out of towners” like my buddy from Austin, Texas, Billy Perkins and all the way from Milan, Italy, MALLEUS. Here’s a list of poster artists/dealers attending: The Firehouse, Emek, Helie Robertson, Ryan Kerrigan, Gary Houston, John Howard, Marq Spusta, Randy Tuten, David Singer, Wes Wilson, Cliff Yamasaki, Gregg Gordon, Mari Tepper, Jon Van Hamersveld, Malleus, Lee Conklin, Stanley Mouse, Dennis Loren, Dave Hunter, Scott MacDougal, Pat Ryan, Chris Shaw, Alex Fischer, Paul Imagine, Lindsey Kuhn, Alan Forbes, Billy Perkins, Justin McNeal, Regent Press, Eric King, Sherwood Donahue, Perry Pfeffer, Connected Music, Tea Lautrec Litho, Tom Hill, John Kenner, S.F. Rockposters, Mike Storeim / fillmoreposter.com and Kris Mikkelson. So, if you’re not doing anything early afternoon, come on down to The Hall Of Flowers in Golden Gate Park and check out some Rock posters and bring your checkbook. See you there!

After you visit TO TRPS on Saturday, go down to THEE PARKSIDE (my favorite bar in the world) for the 1st Annual All-Day Frisco Freakout Psychedelic Dance Party! Ripley of Wooden Shjips and his buddy Rich got together and wanted to put on a festival like they use to back in the day. The event starts at 3PM (doors at 2) and it’s ALL DAY LONG! It’s also ALL AGES and Thee Parkside has food for sale, an outdoor patio (so you can chill in the backyard) or go across the street to Jackson Park. Oh yeah, the show poster was done by none other than Alan Forbes. Here’s the band list for the fest: Ascended Master, Assemble Head in Sunburned Sound, Crystal Antlers, The Bad Trips, Earthless, Greg Ashley, Sleepy Sun, Wooden Shjips, Art Lessing and the Flower Vato, Mythical Beast, Sequin Trails DJs Black Fjord, Duke of Windsor, and more; Visuals by AC (Donuts), plus much, much more!! All proceeds go to Creativity Explored, an outstanding nonprofit visual arts center in San Francisco, where artists with developmental disabilities create, exhibit, and sell art. For more info, check out the website at http://www.creativityexplored.org. Also, I had Ripley of Wooden Shjips on Pirate Cat Radio yesterday and you can hear the podcast at WWW.PIRATECATRADIO.COM and then click on 10/07/08 to your right. Come on out, get your freak on and bring some money for merch, food and booze. See you there, man!

Last, but not least, next Tuesday the 14th, I will have my hometown heroes of BOXCAR SATAN on my radio show at WWW.PIRATECATRADIO.COM from 4to6PM (PST). Then after the interview, they’re heading to The Knockout in the Mission District to perform with GRAVES BROTHERS DELUXE. Boxcar Satan has been an integral part of the San Antonio music scene since the late 80’s. The band has gone through so many drummers and bass players that I lost count years ago. Only one man has been with BS since the “big bang” and his name is Sanford Allen. The current line-up is probably the tightest I’ve ever seen from them. Bassist Patrick Sane and Sanford are alumni of Texas industrial terrorists Evil Mothers and drummer Aaron Seibert is also a member of Austin's Gorch Fock. I can’t wait too see my boys from SATANtonio and they are a “must see” band if you like your Blues dirty, mean, evil and pretty all at once. See you there!

Remember, check out my new radio show every Tuesday 4to6PM (PST) at Pirate Cat Radio 87.9FM San Francisco/Los Angeles and 104.8FM in Berlin, Germany. You can check it out online at WWW.PIRATECATRADIO.COM. Oh yeah, the last of my six shows are podcast'd as well. The station is also attached to the PCR Café. If you're in San Francisco, come on down to 21st Street @Florida for a coffee, ice tea, Italian soda, free internet or just hangout. Also, I'm taking band submissions right now to play live in the café/studio. No amps or full drums whatsoever! Let's say like a living room feel to it (minus the bongs, coke mirrors, porn and booze). C'mon, it's a neighborhood café. Anyway, get a hold of me for submissions.

Also, THE THRASH ATTACK is still every Thursday 4to7PM (PST) at WWW.KSCU.ORG or 103.3FM in the South Bay. Spread the word and tell all your friends in bands, labels, promoters, bookers or anybody else that deals with bands. Thanks for everything, have a nice weekend and be cool. Cheers!
