THE SWORD/BLACK COBRA/BISOC B.C./TRPS ROCK POSTERS/FRISCO FREAKOUT FEST/BOXCAR SATAN/PLAYLIST/TOP 10/PIRATE CAT RADIO

I like ROCKtober! Since I was a teenager, ROCKtober has been a part of my life. I remember the local rock station would throw a free concert in downtown San Antonio. Also, some good concerts would come through town. As I got older, the local bars and rock clubs would always have more bands than usually and great drink specials (YEAH!). Now, it still hasn’t changed and that’s why I love this country. The next seven days are going to be so much fun here in San Francisco that I invite you to fly in and hang out. Ok, try to keep up with me.

Starting this Friday the 10^th, THE SWORD, BLACK COBRA and BISON b.c. will be performing at Slim’s. I think this is the first time I’ll be seeing BLACK COBRA on the big stage. It’s only two guys that sound like they’ll be five guys on stage. I’m hoping the light show for them will be like a RUSH concert. HA! THE SWORD has been getting bigger and bigger in the last couple of years. These guys are now opening for METALLICA and there fans base is only getting bigger. It won’t surprise me that The Sword will start touring with other bigger bands in the near future. All the best to them. Also on the bill is BISON b.c. and these guys are going to blow you away. They’re loud and will crush your skull early on the show. So, if you like Mastodon or Lair of the Minotaur, go out to dinner early and don’t miss this band.

Two huge events going on Saturday, October 11^th and let me start with the early show. We are proud to have once again TRPS Rock Poster Show 2008 in Golden Gate Park. This year’s event has a few new “out of towners” like my buddy from Austin, Texas, Billy Perkins and all the way from Milan, Italy, MALLEUS. Ripley of Wooden Shjips and his buddy Rich got together and wanted to put on a festival like they use to back in the day. The event starts at 3PM (doors at 2) and it’s ALL DAY LONG! It’s also ALL AGES and Thee Parkside has food for sale, an outdoor patio (so you can chill in the backyard) or go across the street to Jackson Park. Oh yeah, the show poster was done by none other than Alan Forbes. Boxcar Satan has been an integral part of the San Antonio music scene since the late 80’s. The band has gone through so many drummers and bass players that I lost count years ago. Only one man has been with BS since the “big bang” and his name is Sanford Allen. The current line-up is probably the tightest I’ve ever seen from them. Bassist Patrick Sane and Sanford are alumni of Texas industrial terrorists Evil Mothers and drummer Aaron Seibert is also a member of Austin's Gorch Fock. I can’t wait too see my boys from SATANtonio and they are a “must see” band if you like your Blues dirty, mean, evil and pretty all at once. See you there!

VITAMIN X/BOOM FEST 2008/PCR/PLAYLISTS/TOP 10

Since I got back from Seattle a few weeks ago, I’ve been laying low and just going out drinking and hanging with friends mainly. I’ve seen a few bands along the way like Part-Time Christians (members of Attitude Adjustment and they were fuckin killer!), Abrupt (SF), Nick Cave and that’s about it. This weekend, I’m going too see some great fuckin bands and its starts tomorrow night. Oh yeah, no radio shows next week. Sorry!

Thursday night is Obituary, Unleashed and Carnifex at Slim’s but, the one band I was looking forward seeing because I haven’t seen them since the eighties was POSSESSED. Nooooo!!!!! They just canceled the show and I really wanted too see one of my favorite metal bands from that era. Hell, I still have the original LP of “SEVEN CHURCHES” and I even played it at a DJ gig a few weeks ago. Anyway, I wanted to remember the good times through there songs at the show. I wanted to text my old friends from high school that I’m at the show and wished they were here getting high and drinking beer like the old days. Oh well, I’ll catch them next time here in San Francisco and I’ll be able to toke up and pour booze down me throat once again.

Friday night I’ll be boozing up at my neighborhood bar, Thee Parkside but, a band from a far away land will be performing. VITAMIN X from Amsterdam, Netherlands will be tearing it up along with PELIGRO SOCIAL, DESOLATION and DUCK AND COVER. The new album was put out on TankCrime Records (YEAH) and the cover art was done by John Dyer Baizley (Baroness). The show is all ages and it’s presented once again by Tank Crimes Records and Alcoholocaust Presents. Get ready for some HardcorePunk and wear your sweatband. See you there!

After a few cups of coffee, a greasy breakfast and sleeping in a bit, I’ll be at Thee Parkside again for another show. Not just a show this time but, a fest. BOOM FEST 2008 will be happening from 3 to 2AM. Boom is a legendary Punk Rocker from San Francisco and his band back in the 80’s, BOOM & THE LEGION OF DOOM. He actually busted out on my other radio show yesterday some virgin vinly of the original LP from 1989. It was amazing! Can you believe summer came and went like a fart in the wind? I didn't even go swimming this summer but then again, the ocean is 50 degrees. HA! Anyway, I'm really doing nothing this weekend except going too see Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds this Saturday. Besides that, hanging out and enjoying the fall weather that hit us here in San Francisco.
